Located on the Ritten in South Tyrol, surrounded by beautiful nature, and last but not least because of their bees, the Rinner family is committed to sustainability and the careful use of resources. From Apiary to Family Hotel
The Rinner family has been dedicated to beekeeping for over three generations. The family feels closely connected to the bees – and always has! Master beekeeper Paul Rinner has been working with bees and traveling with them as an itinerant beekeeper since he was twelve years old, almost four decades ago.

An apiary is built
In 1966, the Rinner family combined three important concerns: family, bees, and a summer retreat. A project close to their hearts quickly emerged: the construction of an apiary with associated workrooms and a beekeeper’s dwelling. Decisive factors in the choice of the current site were its accessibility by public transport, centrality, climatic suitability, and lack of wind. The last point was especially important for an apiary.
A queen-rearing room was planned on the first floor to ensure reproduction. A honey store and a storage room were also essential. The heart of the house was located in the basement: the extraction room and a work and craft room. The beehives were placed along the front of the entire house.
The dream of a hotel
In the beginning, it was just an apiary with a beekeeper’s apartment. During the construction phase, the project and its purpose changed several times. Due to the positive development of tourism and the favorable location of the house, the Rinner family quickly realized that they had the opportunity to fulfill a second dream. The plan for a guesthouse was drawn up and all rooms were equipped with showers and toilets during the construction phase.
That’s when the apiary became a guesthouse. Today, the third generation of Rinners wants to bring back some of the original history. The heritage of the apiary is to be brought to life for you as a guest. Just as the bees are guests in the blossoms, you should be guests in the bee hotel.
Paul Rinner: Organic Traveling Bee-Keeper
For host Paul Rinner, beekeeping is much more than just the production of honey. Since his youth, he has put his heart and soul into beekeeping. He feels a strong bond to his bees and over the years has gained a wealth of experience that he is happy to share with anyone interested. The innovative Api-Wellness, based on the beneficial air from the hive, is something he is particularly proud of.

As an itinerant beekeeper, Paul Rinner takes his colonies to places where they find the best conditions for rich honey yields. Thanks to the three climatic zones in South Tyrol (the Mediterranean lowlands, the low mountain range with meadows and forests, and the high mountains), the bees find a very diverse plant world and produce several first-class types of honey, including apple blossom honey, acacia honey, dandelion honey, forest honey, chestnut honey, lime-tree honey, and high heather honey.
A passionate organic beekeeper
For many years, not only the hotel but also the beekeeping has been certified by Bioland. Organic and sustainable beekeeping is a matter of course for Paul Rinner and his family. They do not use any chemical bee medication and only allow their bees to forage on organically farmed land. As a result, their organic honey contains no pesticide residues.
In the small forest in front of the hotel, you will find a small but nice educational bee trail. Here you can learn all about Apis mellifera, the western honey bee.
Api-wellness – Unique in the World
Bees do not only produce honey in their hive. They also contain many other valuable ingredients such as essential oils, flavonoids from honey, pollen, wax, and propolis. These are released into the hive air by the heat and ventilation that the bees generate with their wings. You can inhale this valuable beehive air during Api-Wellness!

Medically proven
Treatment with bee products for health maintenance and healing is one of the oldest healing methods with thousands of years of tradition and experience. Bee medicine is gentle yet powerful, effective, and well-tolerated. It increases well-being and has a healing effect on various respiratory problems and allergies.
Juergen Schmiedgen, a certified organic and apitherapeutic beekeeper, has developed the Beecura system (shown in the picture). With the inhalation system for beehive air, the precious, beeswax-scented air with all its valuable ingredients is gently sucked out of the hive without disturbing the bees. You can then inhale it directly.
In addition to the proven effects on illnesses, apitherapy also provides deep inner peace. At the hotel on the Ritten, you can try Api-Wellness for yourself under the expert guidance of organic beekeeper and host Paul Rinner. It is never just one visit, states Paul Rinner. Most people come back.
