  • Measurement of energy consumption, energy saving targets are set and regularly controlled and adjusted
  • Energy and resource-saving technologies (e.g. LED lights, motion detectors, and timers) are used throughout the hotel

  • Water is a limited resource in the Canary Islands. As there are no rivers or lakes on the islands and the climate is very dry, water procurement is a vital problem.
  • As a guest at Casa Leon you are reminded by a small sign in the bathroom to conserve water in the showers and avoid unnecessary washing of towels.
  • Reducing the daily amount of laundry in this way not only saves water but also detergent and electricity.
  • Use of water-saving shower heads with the aim of further reducing water consumption.
  • A large part of Casa Leon’s garden consists of plants such as cacti and the like, which require very little water
  • The facility is equipped with a biological treatment system that reuses wastewater for irrigation
  • The water comes from a nearby well in the Ayagaures Gorge. No one is adversely affected by drawing water from there
  • A rainwater collection system in the hotel’s courtyard also provides water capacity. As does the service water treatment system

  • Casa León is managed according to the principle “avoid, recycle, eliminate waste”
  • Plastic packaging is avoided as completely as possible, for example at breakfast.
  • There is a waste separation system throughout the hotel. The containers with recyclables are collected once a week.
  • Use of seasonal and Km. 0 products and organic foods when available
  • Supporting small local producers and the local economy
  • Use of ingredients from the herb garden, lemons and oranges from the garden
  • CO2 emissions (per guest/night) are measured and new mechanisms for reduction are implemented
  • Pest control without chemicals
  • Protection of flora and fauna – support of biodiversity

  • To offset the CO2 emissions produced by the hotel and guests, 40,000 m² of forest in the Balkans has been leased, left and maintained in its original state.
  • The hotel pursues a clear communication strategy, understandable to the guest, on the individual sustainable initiatives.
  • Casa León communicates its products and services transparently, (not only sustainability related) Information is provided to the guest about the surrounding nature, the local culture, as well as the appropriate behavior during visits
  • Internal communication of sustainability
